Course Overview

The NCTI Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) Satellites course explores the cutting-edge technology that is currently disrupting the global telecommunications market. No longer just science fiction, VLEO constellations are rapidly becoming viable competitors to traditional landline and fiber services.

This course dives into the physics and logistics of space-based internet. Students will examine how VLEO differs from traditional Geostationary (GEO) orbits, enabling High-Speed, Low-Latency Data delivery anywhere on Earth. The curriculum covers the mechanics of Global Mesh Networks, the evolution of Self-Installed Antennas (such as phased arrays), and the complex regulatory landscape governing operation beyond the atmosphere.

Note: Students taking this course should already have a base knowledge of satellites, earth orbits, and antenna technologies.

Who Should Attend:

  • Telecom Engineers
  • Network Planners
  • ISP Strategists
  • Technology Enthusiasts

What You Will Learn

Upon completion, students will be able to explain how VLEO carriers achieve faster connectivity and identify the opportunities and challenges facing vendors in this space.

Core Competencies:

  • Orbit Mechanics: Describe the operational differences between common satellite orbits and the specific characteristics of the VLEO layer.
  • Network Architecture: Explain the characteristics of Global Mesh Networks and how VLEO carriers utilize inter-satellite links to achieve faster connectivity.
  • Hardware & Propagation: Describe features of self-installed user terminals and explain the characteristics of Multipath Propagation in a VLEO environment.
  • Market Landscape: Identify opportunities for vendors, challenges in deployment (debris, cost), and the competition VLEO providers face from terrestrial networks.
  • Regulation & Innovation: Identify regulatory agencies and current rules for non-terrestrial operation, while exploring future innovations in the satellite industry.

Certification and Benefits

Understand the Future of Broadband

This course provides a concise, high-level overview of the technology that is set to connect the “unconnectable” regions of the world.
