Course Overview
Broadband connectivity is the backbone of modern communication, driving innovation and connectivity in our digital world. The NCTI® Delivering Broadband Services course is designed to equip technicians with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, maintain, and troubleshoot the infrastructure and services that deliver broadband to homes and businesses.
Broadband service delivery requires a comprehensive understanding of the technologies and processes that make it possible. This course helps technicians become familiar with the basics of signal transmission, fiber optics, and hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) networks, as well as the practical aspects of installing and maintaining aerial and underground drops. It takes the student through each part of the network and demonstrates the practices that personnel must follow to perform installations at the customer premises. Triple-play service delivery and customer equipment connections are covered in detail. Also included are lessons on system maintenance, troubleshooting, federal and local regulations, and safety.
The growing demand for high-speed connectivity, streaming media, and smart devices drives the future of broadband services. By mastering these lessons, technicians will play a critical role in connecting communities and shaping the future of communication technology.
Who Should Attend:
Personnel who need to understand how broadband services are delivered to customers, especially those responsible for resolving technical issues over the phone, including:
- Customer service representatives
- New technical support staff
- Network operations center (NOC) staff
- Sales staff
- Marketing employees
What You Will Learn
Upon completion, students will be able to visualize the network architecture and perform safe, regulation-compliant installations at the customer premises.
Objectives
- Describe how broadband cable signals travel from the headend to the customer premises and from the customer premises to the headend
- Describe how signal modulation and processing are accomplished in the headend
- Explain the details and complexities of video technology, formats, and services
- Describe how VoIP handles a phone call in a broadband network
- Describe how a modem and EMTA are provisioned and explain how they function
- Describe how fiber-optic equipment functions
- Explain the procedures that technicians must use when handling fiber-optic cable
- Explain what causes signal outages
- Describe the steps involved in routing and connecting drop cables in aerial and underground installations
- Explain entertainment ecosystems and configure streaming devices and applications, including network connectivity and authentication, to provide access to entertainment content
- Explain the methods that are involved in performing signal leakage monitoring
- Explain the personal safety practices that are necessary for technical and non-technical employees
