The NCTI® Exploring Wireless Technologies course provides the student a comprehensive introduction to the underlying theory, design techniques and core principles of wireless communications. Whether the application is cell phones, Internet access or over-the-air television, the fundamentals of antennas and over-the air radio wave propagation remains the same. Many technicians work in these areas without learning about these fundamentals. Transmission lines are also discussed because antennas are connected to some form of physical medium, wire, cable, waveguide or circuit board. To address this immediate need, Exploring Wireless Technologies contains lessons from NCTI’s System and Advanced Technician courses that pertain to wireless communications.
Completion Time:
The estimated completion time for this course is 18 hours. The maximum allotted time is four months from enrollment.
Benefits:
- receive an industry-recognized NCTI certificate of graduation
Upon completing this course, students will be able to:
- describe the most common types of modulation
- explain the function of various receiver circuit blocks
- define what transmission lines are and the categories of transmission lines
- describe how radio waves propagate over-the-air and through the atmosphere
- describe antenna principles and how they apply to different antenna types
- describe several applications of microwave communications and identify common microwave components
- describe the basic operation of satellite communications systems
