The telecommunications industry is at a crossroads. With a signficant number fiber technicians on the retirement path, a trove of institutional knowledge is at risk of being lost. This looming challenge is the focus of a new white paper from NCTI and the Fiber Broadband Association (FBA), “Employer Workforce Preparedness in the Fiber Broadband Industry: How Build-Ready Are We?”
The paper, based on a joint industry survey, reveals that while companies are confident in their current workforce, significant challenges remain. The reliance on on-the-job training is under threat as experienced technicians retire, and 73% of in-house training is rated as only “somewhat effective” or “not effective.”
To meet the demands of the future, the paper argues for a proactive, forward-thinking approach. The industry must move beyond reactive training and embrace strategies that attract new talent, provide clear career pathways, and consistently measure the effectiveness of training programs.
Don’t wait for a skills gap to widen. Read the full white paper to understand the state of our workforce and learn how to secure the talent pipeline necessary for long-term success.
