Field Safety

Course Overview

Safety is a critical foundation for every broadband technician. The NCTI® Field Safety course provides an in-depth understanding of the safety practices, tools, and protocols necessary for technicians to perform their duties efficiently and without incident. Whether working at heights, handling electrical equipment, or driving to job sites, maintaining a safety-first approach is essential to protecting lives, preserving equipment, and ensuring uninterrupted service delivery to customers. Through this course, students will learn how to use personal protective equipment (PPE), follow ladder safety protocols, navigate the challenges of accessing and working on aerial infrastructure safely, maintain vehicles to prevent accidents and delays, adopt safe driving practices, and adhere to safety regulations on and off the job site. These skills are vital since technicians face safety challenges daily, from electrical hazards to fall risks and potential road accidents. The Field Safety course is both a standalone course and a component of the Installer course series. Students who take this course receive partial credit for the Installer course and, when completed in combination with Foundations of Installation, Installation Craftsmanship, and Customer Service and Work Orders, they also earn the Installer course certificate of completion, credit toward an NCTI Master Technician certification, and college credit.
